Effective July 1, 2017, the Commonwealth of Virginia began requiring a license issued by DPOR for anyone working as a home inspector. Home inspectors previously certified under the Virginia Certified Home Inspector Regulations were issued a license.

 

We encourage you to go to the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation to review all the requirements to become a Virginia Licensed Home Inspector. In short, most new applicants must complete the approved educational requirements and obtain field experience while under the supervision of a Virginia licensed home inspector. They must also pass the National Home Inspectors Examination.

 

All Virginia home inspectors must be 18 years of age and obtain the required general liability insurance. Virginia home inspectors must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

We can help with the educational requirements. It takes more than a quick live or on-line class to become a good home inspector. We can get you started with a good foundation that meets the classroom requirements set by the Commonwealth to get your license. Knock out your required classroom studies in four days or occasionally we offer weekend classes. 

 

We hold our 4-day (35-hour) live class about once a month at our facility located at 209 Business Park Drive in Virginia Beach. Unlike other providers, we have our own facility for our Virginia DPOR Approved Pre-license class, as well as many of our other home inspector training classes. The fee for the live class is only $899 for this July and August and includes the books and learning materials. If you're the hands-on type, we have numerous on-site exhibits such as furnaces, A/C units and electric service panels and we are routinely adding new exhibits to enhance your learning experience. Along with the lectures, we also use animated slideshows and video clips to help with your training.

 

Meals are on your own, but refreshments and snacks are provided throughout the day. You can bring your own lunch or leave for the lunch break. We have a refrigerator and microwave oven on site, if you'd like to bring last night's leftovers and heat them up during the break.

 

If you would like to cut the number of required field inspections needed to obtain your license, ask about our on-line class to earn a 70-hour certificate. The on-line class is not a stand-alone class and must be taken with the live class for credit. The fee for the on-line class is $599.00. When you register for the live class you are eligible for the online class too.
